The Wazalendo Group of Singers organized a choral concert themed ‘Celebrating African culture through
music’, which was the group’s first-ever concert. The concert was held on Sunday, 26th November 2023 at
The Nairobi Cinema Hall in Nairobi, Kenya.

The concert featured works by well-known choral composers and Directors from within the country and across the continent. The songs featured included: Jachwech (a Luo sacred tune arranged by Philemon Ogolla), Mbisi (a Taita folk song arranged by George Mwiruki), Mzalendo (a Kenyan patriotic song composed by Chris Wekulo, HSC), Keturoto Katoda (a Teso sacred tune arranged by Frankline Etyang), Nishike mkono (a pop gospel by Anastacia
Mukabwa & arranged by Humphrey Kisia), Uongozi (a Kenyan patriotic song composed by mwalimu Thomas Wasonga, OGW, MBS, SS), Ekebwe (a Kisii folk arranged by Prof. Melitus Wanyama), Tong Gweno (a Luo secular tune arranged by Dr. Fred Atoh), Sizongena (a Zulu traditional wedding song arranged by Mzilikazi Khumalo), Ler ni orieny e mudho (a Luo sacred tune arranged by Dr. Fred Atoh), Mbinguni kuna raha (a Swahili arrangement by Dr. Arthur Mudogo Kemoli), Nakubaliana (a pop gospel by Gloriah Muliro; arranged by Humphrey Kisia),
Mwana Leah (a Luhya courtship song by Fanuel Amimo; arranged by Esmond Majanga), Sandoka (by Franco Luambo, Sam Sam Mangwana & TPOK Jazz; arranged by Humphrey Kisia), Sudu (a pop gospel by Wazee Wetu; arranged by Humphrey Kisia), I love my country (a Kenyan patriotic song composed by Chris Wekulo, HSC), The Lord bless you and keep you (arrangement Peter C. I so much like the end part guys, your headwork is a gift, I can’t wait to listen to what is left to appload (don’t put us!! lol, )the sound is perfect. The dynamics were well executed. kudos! Wazalendo group of singers, and of course, the able conductor and the amazing keyboard player.
